MILK AND HONEY FARMS is currently accepting internship applications for the 2019 growing season!
What You'll Learn:
CROP PLANNING - from succession crops designed for our CSA/farmer's market model to the important soil building process of cover cropping, you'll learn how we map out and plan our seasons.
GROWING FOOD - you'll see how we use sustainable and organic methods to grow nutrient-dense food for our community on a small piece of land. You'll learn how we prep our beds for planting, how to seed, transplant and crop maintenance.
HARVESTING/MARKETING - one of the biggest jobs on the farm is reaping what we sow! Harvesting crops frequently provides the freshest food for our community.
IPM / FERTILITY - you'll learn how we sustainably manage fertility and pests through observation, planning, maintenance, and feedback. We choose to work with nature rather than fight it, letting natural processes dominate the ecosystems.
Who We're Looking For:
There's no way around it - farming is hard work. But, it's a beautiful way of life that we're still excited about many years in. We're looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic person who is eager to learn alongside us 2-3 days a week (or 20hrs) from April - September. We ask that you be positive, reliable, and not afraid to get dirty! In addition to gaining valuable experience on the ins and outs of small-scale farming, we offer a free weekly CSA share, as well as a small monetary stipend. This internship may be ideal for students of sustainable agriculture, ecology, agronomy, nutrition, or environmental sciences. This is also a great option for those interested in beginning a career in small-scale, sustainable agriculture. We are more than happy to work with your schools/organizations to develop an internship season that works for everyone.
